Hi, I’m Daphne
My Story aka “The Struggle“
I’ve been writing lyrics since I was 12 years old, but it took me 10+ years to start taking my music seriously. Maybe you’ve noticed my first YouTube cover wasn’t until 2012 and, by this time, I was already 26.
The cover was a lyrical rewrite of Boyfriend by Justin Bieber, but I titled my version Girlfriend.
To-date, the cover song has received over 15K views and was featured in an AutoStraddle article.
Oddly enough, I stopped making music during this period of time. Instead, I went through a period of my life feeling lost and confused about work and life.
I had gone through the motions of what people around me said was the path to success and happiness. These people were teachers, family, friends, significant others, strangers, coworkers, you name it.
I had gotten a college degree and a good job based on other people’s standards and life ideals. So, naturally, I thought that I should be happy, because of it, but I was wrong.
My Transition aka “The Change“
It took some time — about 4 years. Finally, in 2016, something happened that would change my entire life forever. Through circumstances I still can’t wrap my head around today, I found God and was baptized.
This was something I never thought I’d do, because I wasn’t exactly convinced God was even real prior to this. Today, I can now say, for me, this has been the greatest thing I have ever experienced.
As I’ve learned since finding Christ, He will move you to places in your life that will take you out of your comfort zone, but out of it will be a beautiful growth.
So, oddly enough, I now live in an even smaller California city about 15 miles south of Visalia. The difference in my life now is I’m happier.
I’m also stepping into this music career solely because I love it, not just because other people think I should do it.
I’m currently a software engineer and support developer with my day job, but at night I take that hat off and start making music.
My New Journey
I’m basically starting over my career and life. I’m building a music career from scratch and building my personal brand along the way.
I have no budget and no connections in the music industry, but what I do have is more technology, more resources, and a self-awareness that I love music.
I have a deep desire to make sure music is part of my life for the rest of my life, just like God.
All things I wasn’t aware of in 2012.
Other than trying to do this crazy thing to try and build a music career as a lyricist and singer-songwriter from nothing, I have a deep desire to try and help Christian and non-Christian LGBTQIA+ allies and friends, who are also starting a music career or struggling with building your personal brand.
Basically, if you’re reading this, I want to show you what’s possible, by doing what’s seemingly impossible.
For me, this also means I’ll be doing a lot of praying and calling upon verses like Matthew 19:26 that say:
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. (NIV)
You don’t have to believe in God, but whatever you do believe in or don’t believe in, I think you’re able to pick up what I’m putting down.
I’m fearlessly heading into new territory and I’m inviting you to come along with me.
Gifts To You
- You won’t see me show or talk about anything I don’t have any experience with.
So, if you’re trying to do something specific like get signed to a label, get a platinum record, or make millions of dollars, those aren’t things I’m going to be able to help you with, because I haven’t experienced them myself.
2. If you’re just starting your music career, like me, with not much money and no connections, but you really want to promote your music and your brand, I will share with you how I’m doing those things.
For starters, I’d love to share with you, a mini resource guide I created, 3 tools I use to write lyrics.
So, if you have trouble coming up with lyrics, let that end today.
Go on this journey with me and change your music career.
It’s FREE! ☺
